Typical Conventions of TV Drama


Typical Conventions of TV Drama-

·     Story Line- Always a dramatic story line, affairs between characters, typical sob story. Murders and deaths- dragged out, murderers are not revealed for months. This keeps audience watching and they want to find out whom it is.
·     Characters- Range of ages from infants to elderly, different genders and races. Families, couples and friends. Lower class- Upper class with different positions of work- Bartender, waitress, mechanic, cars salesmen, shop assistant, market trader etc.
·     Lengths of scene- ranges for a few minutes.
·     Settings- Similar in all dramas- CafĂ©, Pub, Restaurants, Shop, Market, Police Stations, Houses, Hair Salons, Bars etc.
·     Theme- Similar in all Dramas- Love, Deceit, Melancholy, Romance, Tense, Comedic, Sad etc.
·     Verisimilitude- All Drama sets are quite realistic with all the buildings and sound effects.
·     Costumes- All realistic- Higher, middle and lower class. What ordinary people wear.
